Job Vacancy – Friend in Residence – amidst mountains and lakes!
Following the retirement of our longstanding Friend in Residence, Glenthorne Quaker Centre is looking for a new person or couple to take on this position. Glenthorne has recently achieved Quaker Recognised Body status and The Trustees see this as an opportunity to help take this work forward.
Glenthorne Quaker Centre is a well-established guest house and small conference centre in the English Lake District where Quakers and others come for spiritual renewal, rest, relaxation and other activities, individually or as a group, or to take part in one of our organised programme events.
We are looking for a Friend in Residence to support the Quaker presence in the Centre. Duties include welcoming and mixing with guests, leading daily meetings for worship and supporting the values of the Religious Society of Friends throughout the organisation. The successful applicant will be required to be a Friend* (in membership). You will help to maintain and develop Glenthorne’s charitable work, in networking with other Quaker bodies and with local organisations and faith groups. As an integral member of the operational team you will also help with arrangements for courses, programme events and groups. This also includes being responsible for planning, arranging and facilitating our successful Welcome Project stays for refugee and asylum groups.
Accommodation is provided in a self-contained flat on the premises. The annual salary will be based on an average of 20 hours per week, from which there will be a standard deduction for accommodation. There may be possibilities to extend the hours with additional duties.
